I’ll be exhibiting a copy of Orihon at the accompanying exhibition for the Art + Book Symposium next week in Dunedin, New Zealand.

From the symposium website, “Books are the foundation of literate societies across the globe. They hold the history and culture of a society over time, formerly the preserve of revered orators and bards. But books are also artworks – from the clay tablets to parchments, from the paper and print, from the linguistic marks to the binding and decoration. Like paintings and sculptures the have the status of cultural treasures. Within books artists have exercised their skills in design and illustration. Artists’ books have become an acknowledged genre of the visual arts. This symposium is an opportunity to celebrate the book in all these various artistic contexts.

There will be two days of papers and discussion from those engaged in art and book – as artists, art historians or theorists, teachers and cultural workers, and others involved in the wide constituency of the artworld, as well as those engaged in the world of books – writers, illustrators, librarians, publishers and the many others whose lives are touched by the use of books in all forms – from those clay tablets to e-books, blogs, online hypertexts and any future manifestations of books. These will include presentations from New Zealanders, as well as friends from Australia, the USA, Canada and South Africa

In addition there will be an exhibition ‘Art and Book’, in the Gallery at the Dunedin School of Art, Riego Street, that will open on 13 October and run until 20 October. A catalogue for the exhibition will be available in the Gallery, as well as on this website.”
