AIC Studio, day 16. Another day of really cool conversations. Thanks to everyone who took time to pop in today. Also found time to work on what i’m calling the “decorative leaf” – the hinging element of Folium, the new 3D printed book i’m working on.
I extended the height of the book to 195mm so that the aspect ratio would be more like a book book, and to give myself room for text to describe each piece top and bottom. Therefore everything else has to scale to 195mm.
The “leaf” is decorated with a design appropriated from the stone carvings around the doors to the Michigan Ave entrance to the Art Institute of Chicago. What’s interesting is that the incised portions give the leaf a better “flex” – than without – something that was totally serendipitous. Anyhow running a print of this tonight on my Rep1 at home, hopefully will have something to show tomorrow.
And yes i am doing curves in Rhino and importing them to Tinkercad, and i know this is backwards and i could just do it all in Rhino BUT i have a workflow – and it works – hence it’s a work flow and not learnstuffflow. In time I will migrate to Rhino or Fusion360 but for now the low hanging fruit continues to beckon.
